Bats - Resources

You can greatly minimize the risk of disease transmission by never handling bats, not breathing dust from bat droppings, and vaccinating your dogs and cats against rabies. Rabies is a fatal disease. Each year, tens of thousands of people are successfully protected from developing rabies through vaccination after being bitten by an animal like a bat that may have rabies. There are usually only one or two human rabies cases each year in the United States, and the most common way for people to get rabies in the United States is through contact with a bat.

* If you are experiencing a bat infestation at your residence, please consult with a private pest control company.

* If you need to report a dead or injured bat, please contact Contra Costa Animal Services at (925) 335-8300 or (510) 374-3966.
